Filippo Falciatore (attivo a Napoli alla Metà del XVIII Secolo)

Signed. 'The crab brings back to San Francesco Xavier the crucifix that fell into the sea' valuable oil painting on canvas by the Neapolitan [..]

The Falciatore in his youth was a pupil of Paolo De Matteis and later of Domenico Vaccaro. He was sensitive not only to the characters of Neapolitan Baroque painting in Rococo forms, but also to the extreme chromatic refinement of the "rocaille" trend. Most of his early works portray scenes from the Old and New Testament with a neo-mannerist sensibility and with light and very bright scenographies. Antique Salvator Rosa frame in gilded wood, 60 x 51.5 cm.
